This Fully washed coffee is produced by Jason Njoka whose small farm, Wanja Estate, sits at 1,600 to 1,850 meters above sea level in one of Kenya’s most well-known coffee growing regions, Kirinyaga County. His estate is planted with ‘traditional’ SL34 and SL28 coffee trees, which Jason cares for with diligence. SL-28 and SL-34 were just two of the cultivars released by Scott Agricultural Laboratories (SAL) in the 1930s and 1940s. They soon became the cultivars of choice for many growers in Kenya due to their deep root structure, which allows them to maximize scarce water resources and flourish even without irrigation.
